Michael Morley, MD, ScM

Dr. Michael Morley is a board-certified ophthalmologist and  vitreoretinal surgeon. He has worked on global health projects in Uganda, Thailand, Bhutan, Cambodia, Mongolia, Belize, and Honduras. His recent MGB CGH-related projects include mHealth management of chronic kidney disease in Thailand and development of a diabetic retinopathy image database using vector embedding technology in Uganda. He currently works at the MEEI Ophthalmology AI Lab on a variety of research projects. His interests include data science and bioinformatics, teaching, research, global health, health care management, quality improvement, and patient safety.  His research interests include dementia, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vascular diseases, management of chronic diseases, and healthcare management.

Prior to joining MEEI Ophthalmology AI Lab, Dr. Morley was President and Medical Director of Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston. He was co-chair of Statewide Expert Panel “Patient Safety in Cataract Surgery” with the Betsy Lehman Center, Boston, MA. He has a master’s in Health Care Management from Harvard School of Public Health. He has mentored more than 40 medical students interested in ophthalmology, global health, health care management, and data science/informatics.
