Aliyah Sohani, MD
Dr. Aliyah Sohani is a hematopathologist and the Director of Surgical Pathology at the Department of Pathology at MGH. The majority of her research interests are focused on identifying morphologic, immunophenotypic and genetic features of Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma that further the understanding of disease pathogenesis, aid in diagnosis, predict tumor behavior and response to therapy, or help to define new clinicopathologic entities. She also holds a deep and abiding interest in issues related to delivery of pathology services in low/middle-income countries (LMICs), and has helped to develop guidelines for lymphoma diagnosis and prognosis in regions of the world with limited testing resources. She has served as a consultant and mentor to pathologists based at the Aga Khan University (AKU) Hospital, Nairobi, Kenya, the major teaching hospital of AKU Medical College, East Africa, in establishing research programs and bringing new diagnostic tests into the clinical realm. She provides ongoing pro bono pathology consultation services to AKU Hospital, Nairobi, runs a monthly webinar to review challenging cases, and has given multiple talks at teaching sessions sponsored by the Kenyan Association of Clinical Pathologists. She has also served as a consulting pathologist to MGH’s partnerships in Uganda with the Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) and in Botswana with Botswana Oncology Global Outreach (BOTSOGO).
