Sun Jae Jung, MD, MS, PhD

Sun Jae Jung, MD, MS, PhD, is an associate professor at the Department of Preventive Medicine, Yonsei University College of Medicine. She is joining the Center for Global Health as a Research Fellow.

Sun Jae completed her MD from Yonsei University College of Medicine, Korea, and received her professional qualification in Preventive Medicine from Seoul National University College of Medicine. Sun Jae holds a PhD in Epidemiology from Seoul National University, Korea.

Her primary research interest is the mutual association between mental diseases and physical health, using advanced epidemiological methods:
1. Association between PTSD and cardiovascular disease/neurological disease
2. Sub-structures of depression and their different association between physical and mental health
3. Health effect of psychological resilience
4. Female hormonal effect on schizophrenia onset
5. Population mental health status during and after COVID-19
Her interest includes works in PTSD, depression, suicide, non-suicidal self-injury, sleep disorders, and dementia research. Sun Jae’s current research focuses on the bi-directional association between physical health conditions such as cardiovascular/ endocrinal/reproductive factors and various mental health problems and the interaction between biological and social factors in suicide attempts in major databases from international and S.Korean cohort studies and big data. Her works were conducted mainly from Nurses’ Health Study II/ Korean Genome Epidemiologic Study (KoGES)/ Cardiovascular and Metabolic Etiology Research Center (CMERC), Health Examinees Study(HEXA), National Health Insurance Claim data of S. Korea, Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(KNHANES), The Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey, and so on.
