Doo Woong Lee, PhD

Dr. Doo Woong Lee is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Center for Global Health at Massachusetts General Hospital and is also affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. He completed his Ph.D. in Public Health from Yonsei University in 2022, specializing in Health Policy and Management.

Dr. Lee’s research focuses on two primary areas: understanding the etiology of mental disorders and suicide across various populations and evaluating the impacts of mental health policies. His methodologies include advanced statistical techniques such as causal inference modeling and epidemiological analysis to assess the effects of risk factors on mental health and suicide rates. He employs a multidisciplinary approach, integrating clinical, social, and economic perspectives to understand the complex causes of suicide.

Dr. Lee is particularly interested in the influence of mental health policies on healthcare outcomes, including continuity of care, medical expenses, length of stay, outpatient visits, and 30-day readmission rates. His research aims to address and reduce suicide rates by evaluating and suggesting policies aimed at mitigating this issue.

For his research, Dr. Lee uses large-scale population-based datasets, including health insurance claim data, hospital EHR data, and other sources. These datasets help identify populations at risk for mental health issues. He has numerous publications that critically examine suicidal behaviors, suicide, and social determinants of health (SDoH).
