Kayanja Fellowship Builds Clinical Expertise in Uganda

Endowed by the Paiko Foundation through MGH Global Health, the Kayanja Fellowship at the Mbarara University of Science & Technology in Uganda supports post-graduate scholars in medicine and nursing. Dr. Prossy Bibangambah received her undergraduate medical degree at Mbarara University and returned to pursue specialist training in radiology.

CAMTech and GE Announce First Mile Challenge Winners

CAMTech and GE Sustainable Healthcare Solutions launched the First Mile Innovation Challenge to crowdsource innovative technologies and solutions to address clinical or community hardships in primary care. Sisu Global Health, a medical device company developing health technologies for emerging markets, won the $25k award for their low-cost auto-transfusion device, Hemafuse.

Nursing: A Global Profession

MGH Global Nursing and MGH Global Health recently hosted a public seminar for the 2016-17 Global Nursing Fellowship and to honor the contributions of Senior Vice President and Chief Nurse Jeanette Ives Erickson to the field of global nursing.

Kara Olivier, Bethany Groleau, and Heidi Abendroth shared their experience in mentoring nurses to care for pediatric and adult cancer patients in Uganda. Mary Sebert and Sophia Harden detailed their work to improve wound care at the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. 

In partnership with the Muhimbili University of Health & Allied Sciences in Tanzania, Patricia Crispi and Jennifer Curran mentored new clinical instructors for the public hospital system in Dar es Salaam. Dawn Williamson and Christopher Shaw supported their colleagues in Tanzania to more effectively treat substance use disorders.

MGH Celebrates the 2017 Global Health Service Awardees

The 2017 Global Health Service Awards were announced by Dr. O'Neil Britton (Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President) at the 6th Annual Global Health Expo in May. 

Dr. Annekathryn Goodman from the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology received the Humanitarian Award for her longstanding commitment to patient care at home and abroad. Dr. Syed Mahmood from the Department of Medicine received the Rising Star Award for his advocacy and academic research with Rohingya refugees in India. Dr. Jason Harris from the Department of Pediatrics received the Excellence in Research Award for his research on cholera in Bangladesh and Haiti. Dr. Geren Stone from the Department of Medicine received the Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring Award for his training of future global health leaders as the Director of the MGH Global Medicine Residency Program

Sponsored by MGH Global Health, the Global Health Service Awards honor individual contributions to reducing global health inequities and showcase the global reach of Mass General. The 2018 Global Health Service Award nomination process will open in March 2018.

3rd Annual "Color Run" for Pediatric Cancer

In 2015, MGH Global Health launched the 5K Uganda Color Run for Cancer to raise awareness and funding for children with cancer. Through this event, which attracted 100 runners in 2015 and over 350 runners in 2016, the Color Run for Cancer has raised critical awareness in the community.
